Ear Wax Removal Training Course - Happy Ears

Since launching our 'ear wax removal franchise' one of the most common questions I get asked - particularly from nurses, and other healthcare professionals is whether we provide training...

Having gone through a training course myself, I know what aspects of an ear wax removal training course were of benefit, what were not and importantly what wasn't covered but wish it had. As a result, this meant I had to learn quite a lot 'on-the job' and for many people providing a poor patient experience can lead to a loss of confidence and regression from continuing to offer this service. Whilst everyone improves with experience there are some things, which you really should be aware of from day one, which is why I created the Happy Ears Training Programme aimed to be one of the most comprehensive training courses on ear wax removal. The main objective is for you to feel confident at the end of the course.

That's why we developed our CPD approved ear wax removal training course at Happy Ears. Aimed primarily for clinical and healthcare professionals. Our course gives you everything you need to confidently perform ear wax removal using microsuction, water irrigation, and manual techniques - so you can start offering a service your patients genuinely need.

Our training runs in two stages. First, a comprehensive online course covering all the essential clinical theory: ear anatomy, patient consultation, contraindications, otoscopy, infection control, and equipment best practice. Only once you've successfully completed the online modules will you be invited to attend one of our practical training days, held at venues across the UK starting with Castle Donington.

That practical day is where it all comes together — real hands-on experience with professional equipment, plus guidance on setting up and running a successful ear wax removal business.

What Our Ear Wax Removal Training Course Covers

Our CPD approved course is split into two clearly defined stages: online theory and hands-on practical training - designed to take you from foundational knowledge through to confident clinical practice.

Stage 1: Online Theory Modules

The online stage of our ear wax removal course is self-paced and can be completed from anywhere in the UK, making it ideal for busy healthcare professionals fitting training around existing clinical commitments. Modules cover:

  • Ear Anatomy and Physiology - understanding the structures you'll be working with
  • Cerumen and Ear Wax Impaction - causes, types, and clinical significance
  • Patient Consultation, Medical History and Consent - how to assess suitability safely
  • Contraindications - recognising when ear wax removal should not be performed
  • Otoscopy and Ear Examination - correct technique and what to look for
  • Equipment Best Practice and Maintenance - keeping your tools safe and effective
  • Ear Wax Removal Techniques and Infection Control - procedural standards across all methods

Only upon successful completion of all online modules will candidates become eligible to book their practical training day.

Stage 2: Practical Training Day

Our practical training days are currently held at our Castle Donington venue, with further UK locations being added. This is a full hands-on session where you'll work directly with the equipment used in a professional ear wax removal setting, covering both microsuction and water irrigation techniques in a supervised clinical environment.

The practical day also includes a dedicated module on how to open and run a successful ear wax removal business - covering everything from equipment sourcing and pricing through to marketing your new service locally.

Why Train With Happy Ears

Choosing the right ear wax removal course is an important decision — particularly for healthcare professionals who need to be confident that their training meets clinical standards and is recognised within the industry. Here's why practitioners across the UK choose Happy Ears.

CPD Accredited and Clinically Credible

Our ear wax removal training course is CPD approved, meaning the quality and clinical relevance of the content has been independently verified. For healthcare professionals, that accreditation matters - both for your own professional development records and for demonstrating credibility to future patients and employers.

Built by Practitioners, for Practitioners

Our course has been developed by experienced ear wax removal specialists with real-world clinical experience delivering the service to patients across the UK. The content reflects the situations, challenges, and decisions you'll actually encounter in practice — not just theoretical scenarios.

Small, Focused Training Environment

Our practical training days are deliberately kept small, no more than 4 places, to ensure every candidate gets meaningful hands-on time with the equipment and direct guidance from our trainers. We can highlight your strengths and spend additional time on areas you may be weaker at.

We aren't trying to create a training production line with crowded training rooms. Our aim is to deliver trainees who are competent and confident ear wax removal specialists by providing focused, practical, and tailored training relevant to where you are in your clinical journey.

UK-Wide Accessibility

Starting from our Castle Donington venue, we are actively expanding our practical training day locations to make the course accessible to healthcare professionals across the UK. The online theory stage can be completed entirely remotely, meaning you can begin your training immediately regardless of where you're based.

A Course That Goes Beyond the Clinic

Many ear wax removal courses stop at clinical technique. Ours doesn't. Our practical training day includes a dedicated module on setting up and running a successful ear wax removal business - giving you the commercial foundation to turn your new qualification into a sustainable service offering. You can find out more about that on our start your own ear wax removal business page.
